Les modalités d’utilisation

Avec Mobilis, vous pouvez voyager de façon illimitée dans les zones choisies.

Vous pouvez vous déplacer sur tous les modes de transport d'Île-de-France, Métro, RER  Bus, Tramway et Train à l'exception de Filéo, Voguéo et les liaisons desservant les aéroports (Orlyval, Orlybus, Roissybus, Orly et Roissy par RER).
L’accès par les lignes 183 et 285 pour l’aéroport d’Orly et les lignes 350 et 351 pour l’aéroport de Roissy est possible (pour les zones concernées).

Pour tous les forfaits (quelle que soit la durée), la période de validité va du premier jour à 0h au dernier jour à 24h.

Attention :
Mobilis se présente sous la forme d’un coupon magnétique correspondant aux zones choisies. Avant toute utilisation, vous devez inscrire sur le coupon votre nom, votre prénom ainsi que la date d'utilisation.

Sadly, the RATP's website page featuring this ticket does not have a page in English but the key points are that with one ticket you are able to travel for a whole day within the chosen zones on Metro, RER, Bus, Tram and Train in the Île de France with the exception of those serving the airports such as Orlyval, Orlybus, Roissybus and Roissy (CGD) by RER.

However, bus routes 183 and 285 to Orly and 350 and 351 to Roissy are available with Mobilis.

For all packages (regardless of duration), the validity period is from the first day to the last day 0h to 24h.

Please note:

Mobilis is in the form of a magnetic ticket corresponding to the selected areas. Before use, you must enter your name, first name and date of use on the ticket.

Paris Tramline 7 extension announced

Further to the article on Tramline 7 opening, dated 16 November 2013, RATP have announced a proposed extension of the tramline from Athis-Mons to Juvisy where passengers will be able to interchange with RER lines C & D.

Paris Metro service Christmas 2013

14 December 2013.

I enquired what the Metro service would be on 25 December and 26 December 2013 and received the following reply from RATP the public transport operator.

"  I understand your request and I can confirm that the Metro runs on December 25 as a Sunday and public holidays (a little less traffic)and 26 December as a normal day. "

Thats's more or less a normal service.

NEW - Paris Tramline 7 Opened

Paris public transport operator RATP opened the latest in their growing network of tramways with the opening of  Tramline 7 (T7) on 16 November 2013.

The new line is 11.2 km long and has 18 stations. T7 starts with an interchange with Metro line 7 at Villejuif Louis Aragon  and also interchanges with RER line C at Rungis la Fraternelle and ORLYVAL at Orly Airport before reaching its terminus at Porte de l'Essonne.

New Alstom 302 trams will operate on T7. These are 32m long and are able to carry up to 200 passengers.

Paris Metro & RER - Easter 2013

If you are in Paris over the Easter weekend then you should have no problem with the level of service on public transport.

Public transport on Easter Sunday (Pâques) and Easter Monday (Lundi de Pâques) operates on the timetable of Sunday and Public Holiday.

A slightly less frequent but more than adequate service on the Metro and RER trains.

Tramline extension from St.Denis

On 15 November, Paris public transport operator RATP opened the western extension of tramline T1 from Saint Denis to Asnières-Gennevilliers-Les Courtilles where it reaches the northern terminus of Metro line 13. It also passes beneath RER line C at with a stop at Gennevilliers Station.

Metro & RER service at Easter

RATP have advised that the metro and RER/SNCF Ilê de France will operate as follows on Sunday 8 April and Monday 9 April 2012.

Station to Station - Gare du Nord to Gare de l'Est

The major railway stations of Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est are joined by Metro lines 4 and 5, the journey time being 1 minute. You will see from this that the stations are quite close together and with weather and time permitting it possible and preferrable to transfer between them on foot. (For those familiar with London, the distance is comparable to St.Pancras to Euston).

There is a choice of routes one of which avoids a flight of about 50 steps which might prove difficult for anyone with a large amount of luggage of or who finds steps a problem.

1a) From the front of Gare du Nord turn left along the front of the station and carry on in a straight line on Rue de Dunkerque until its junction with Rue d'Alsace where you should turn right and keep going until you reach the flight of steps which will take you down to the left side of the Gare de l'Est. You will be able to see the train shed and platforms of Gare de l'est over a small wall on the left hand side of the road.

1b)  From the front of Gare du Nord turn left along the front of the station and walk along Rue de Dunkerque until turning right (south) onto Rue du Fauberge Saint-Denis and then left onto Rue des deux Gares at the end turn right by the Cafe Au Train de Vie onto Rue d'Alsace and continue as above.

2.) To avoid the steps take route 1b, above, but instead of turning up Rue de deux Gares, continue on Rue du Fauberge Saint-Denis until Rue de 18 Mai 1945 on the left hand side. Turn left and continue on Rue de 18 Mai 1945 until you reach Place du 11 November 1918 where you will see the impressive frontage of the Gare de l'Est on your left.

Montparnasse Tower

For a superb view of Paris without the queues of the Eiffel Tower, the Montparnasse Tower takes some beating. Very fast lifts whisk you up 210 metres to the 56th floor where you can drink in the 360 degree view across the city and enjoy a drink or snack. The city is spread out before you with its famous landmarks all in view. By using the viewpoint indicators provided, you can locate and see each of the districts and their monuments.




The impressive view from the roof looking towards the Eiffel Tower with the office blocks of La Défense beyond. The golden dome of the Eglise Saint Louis des Invalides can be seen centre right.

A few stairs take you to up to the panoramic roof terrace where it is possible to see as far as 25 miles (40 kilometers) in clear weather. For photographers this is preferable as there is no glass to contend with.

As well as a cafe/bar there is the obligatory gift shop for those essential souvenirs of your visit..

It is really easy to get to the Tower: by train to SNCF Gare Montparnasse, take Metro Lines 4, 6, 12 or 13 to Montparnasse Bienvenue or Bus routes 28, 58, 82, 88, 89, 91, 92, 94, 95 and 96. You will need tickets for RATP Zone 1.

Tour Montparnasse is open from 09:30 to 23:30 April to September and 09:30 to 22:30/23:00 during October to March.
Note: the last elevator up is half an hour before closing time.

A Funicular Railway up Montmartre!

It’s not the Alps so you might be surprised to find a funicular railway in Paris. 

If you intend to visit Montmartre and have already purchased a day ticket for use on the Metro, RER or Buses in Paris, then you will be pleased to know your ticket is also valid on the Montmartre Funicular ( Funiculaire de Montmartre). This useful transport facility will give your feet a welcome rest from the 300 or so steps on the way up to Sacre Coeur.

The funicular was first opened in 1900 and was rebuilt in 1935 and 1991. The track is 354 feet (108m) long and climbs 118 feet (36m). The journey time is around 90 seconds.

Nearest Metro stations are Anvers on line 2 and Abbesses on line 12. From Anvers, cross the busy road outside the Metro station and head straight up Rue de Steinkerque. From Abbesses, head east along Rue Yvonne Le Tac and Rue Tardieu.

The white stone of Sacre Coeur looks warmer in the late July evening sunlight.

The journey up to Sacre Coeur is well worth the effort. The reasonably low level build of central Paris is apparent from this view across the city. The train shed roof of the Gare du Nord can be seen towards the left.

The following picture is a 1906 postcard view of the funicular showing the lengthy climb up to Sacre Coeur.

There was much less vegetation in those days!

Air and Space Museum - Le Bourget

The Air and Space Museum is an excellent destination for those wanting something different to the galleries of the Louvre or Musée d’Orsay.  

From Balloons and the earliest flying machines to Concorde and the conquest of space, the collections are arranged to give the visitor an insight into the history and development of flight.

The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 hrs to 18:00 hrs except from 1 October to 31 March when it closes at 17:00 hrs. It does not open on Christmas day or New Year’s day.

The museum is situated at Le Bourget airport, from central Paris the easiest way to get there by bus from Gare de l’Est. The service 350, destination Roissypole, stops outside the museum. Alternative routes are by Metro line 7 to La Courneuve then take bus 152 to the museum stop or by RER line B to Le Bourget and again take bus 152.

Public Transport Ticket Options

When visiting Paris, the obvious choice for tourists wanting to make numerous journeys on public transport is the Paris Visite travel card but travellers should also consider the Mobilis day ticket.


The Paris Visite travel card is ideal for those wanting to make unlimited, unrestricted trips around Paris and the Ile-de-France region.

The Paris Visite travel card is valid for 1, 2, 3 or 5 consecutive days in zones 1-3 or 1-6

Depending on which zones you select, Paris Visite allows you to travel on:

• metro lines;

• RER lines (RATP and SNCF);

• Ile-de-France bus lines (RATP and OPTILE), except those circulating on Jetbus, Allobus Roissy CDG, tourist excursion and Air France networks;

• the Orlyval line (linking Orly Airport to the RER B);

• the Montmartre funicular.

However, if you are only travelling on one day or have plans which incude a variety of destinations then the Mobilis day ticket might be better for you.

Mobilis covers the same area as Paris Visite with the exception of the airport links (Orlybus, Orlyval, Roissybus, Roissyrail and Orlyrail).

A “day” on both tickets covers the period 05:30 hours to 01:00 the following morning.

A example of a possible saving is as follows:

Two days of travelling around covering zones 1-6 on one day and central Paris in zones 1-2 the next,

Using a 2 days, zone 1-6 Paris Visite ticket would cost €28.90

Splitting into two, one day tickets would be €9.00 + €18.90 = €27.90

Two Mobilis tickets cost €6.10 + €17.30 = €23.40 a saving of €4.50 on the least expensive option above.
